Sugar sweet

Did you know:

* Bottlenose Dolphins have great eyesight both in and out of the water.

* Dolphin labor lasts for only 20 minutes to 2 hours (nice for them!).

* Some wild bottlenose dolphins remain in the same home range for generations, without ever migrating.

* Although they live in water, they still breathe air.

* Dolphins can dive 200 feet, some species can dive more.

* When diving, their heart slows from 60 beats per minute to 30 beats per minute to conserve air

* A male dolphin is called a bull, a female dolphin is called a cow and a baby dolphin is called a calf.

How cute isn't this little calf dolphin?

Today I worked my last day at work. I am finally F R E E !  :)

Tonight I have to finish my tourism assignment. Has to be done today because tomorrow I am meeting up my team from work to go out and eat. Before that my brother and his little son and his fiancee are coming to have lunch with us, the last one :/ God, I will miss them all! <3

On Sunday it is packing, packing and some more packing. We also have to do some laundry for the trip.

(Our car on Monday?)

The schedule for monday is full, I am panicking just by checking it so let us skip that one...

Can't the days have like 50 hours, just these few days?

All papers in order

As you may have seen here in the blog I am taking my dog with me to Malta. It has been all but simple to get all the papers needed, even though it is a EU country you have to prepare a lot!

Remember:

1. Go to the veterinarian and give the vaccine for Rabies (before 2012 you needed a rabies serological test that shows that the dog has got antibodys agains rabies, no need for that know in EU).

2. As long as you are driving only through EU countries, like we will, you do not have to tell them that you are coming as long as you have the EU passport for pets (you get this with the rabies vaccine from your veterinarian).

3. Some countries may requires a bit more than the rabies vaccine, Great Britain and Malta are two of them. Here you also need a documented tick- and tapeworm treatment.

4. Make sure the dog is safe during the journey. If you are going by plane the dog need a special cage that is approved by the flight company. While going with care it is important that the dog has space enough to turn around and lay down.

5. If you are going to Malta you need to contact the MRRA at the goverment. They will need you to fill in an applicationform and then you need to email it fillied in and then get in back with a stamp. They want to know when you are coming to Malta and where to be able too met you up with a veterinarian.

5. Everything checked? Have a nice journey :)

As you can see it was a bit to do before going to Malta, but now we are ready and I think that Raya will have a wonderful life at her new place in Malta.

(My beautiful girl 1 year old at the beach)

Only 5 days until we leave Sweden, and only 2 days left at work! I love my work but I am so fed up with going up at 4.30 am :) haha it is really horrible... more dead than alive.

In just one and a half week I am diving and having a nice time in the (at least a bit) sun.

Comparison

I have compared the weather between Malta and Sweden, just for fun :)

Do I need to tell you that I will N O T come to Sweden in July? ;)

Here you have the weather in south of Sweden:

weather sweden comparison malta

And here is the one for Malta:

Ok, they do have rain in Malta, nearly as much as in Sweden if you see to the whole year. I did summarize it all hehe.

I am so looking forward to 7 month of sun and nearly no rain! :) As long as I don't see snow and ice I am satisfied.

Have a nice eveing, now I have some tourist assignments to finish.

Shark finning - the truth

This is a snapshot of a shark finning port in Kensennuma City where numerous of dead sharks are piled up.

Still want that Shark Fin Soup? :( Only have one word for this, H O R R I B L E !

If this keep on we will soon lose the chance of seing them in the oceans... Our ecosystem will never be the same since they are on the top of the chain.

Horrible but true

Do you like shrimps?

This is not an uncommun scene while they catch shrimps... The bycatch of seaturtles is horrible, because these are not going to survive. If they do, the fishermen often cut the line and that will result in the turtle eating the line and it will have extreme pain until death.

So, think twice before you order a seafood plate at the restaurant :/

Thank You

I Just checked the statistics om my blog. I have 17,7 % more readers this month!

To all of you I would like to give you a big:

If you still don't get it I love pink :) That is just who I am and always will be. To tell you the thruth I own a pair of pink fins and they are beautiful! It just makes the dive a bit more colourful, don't you think?

To all readers out there, please, fill my email (or comments here in the blog) with what you would like me to blog about. What do you want to know? And then ofcourse it would be so great to get to know you, who are you?

The thing is that I see you hehe and I know you are here reading but I would love to make my blog a bit more alive... Can you help me?

This really made my evening great, now I can study happily!

You've got mail

Yes, today I got an email from the landlord asking me when we will show up next week. That's when I understood how close this really is! N E X T   W E E K ! That is soon, very soon :)

I wrote to him that it is really hard to say an exact time. Since we are coming by ferry and the dog need to pass the veterinarian and then we are going to drive in Malta, on the wrong side of the road, all the way from Valletta to St Paul's Bay, it might take some time. I have been driven in Malta once, just around the neighborhood near the divecenter *proud*, it went great though, but not fast haha!

But this time it is different, but hey, I really need to learn it since we are supposed to stay here for a while.

What do you think? Will I make it? Haha

Today I worked full day and tomorrow I am off work, a lot to be done. I did get my tickets for the Pozzallo - Valletta ferry yesterday, another thing that is done! All the tickets are in my "Travel Folder", and the contract, passports, timetables, schedule for the trip etc.

Everyone is laughing at me when I show them, but as I have said before, planning is everything! We will have two children in the car, and I do not want to stay in a harbour waiting 2 hours for a ferry just because we didn't check the schedule...

Hopefully everything will go smooth and we will be in St Paul's Bay in the beginning of February!

Now I am going to study a bit. Have to do the Tourism assignment... :/

See you later on maybe...

Why Malta?

Once upon a time there was a 14 years old girl that was very shy and didn't say very much at school. One day she found a broschoure at school about language travels abroad. Her English wasn't bad, but she didn't like speaking it in front of the other pupils...

Something told her that this is it, this was her chance to change her life. She went home after school and discussed it with her parents and a few weeks later the trip was booked.

It is very common that one goes to these travels with a friend, but since she didn't have a lot of them she decided to go by herself, all the way to Malta - a country that she never heared of before, but hey, the pictures looked nice.

School ended and summer was here, it was time for the big trip to Malta. At first she came to a horrible family that just wasn't good at all, the company let her change to another one in Bugibba.

The car stopped outside the new family's house and here my friends, this girl's life changed totally...

At the door stood a woman, not just a woman, it was Mrs Abela with a big smile and with open arms she approached this little girl telling her: "Welcome Darling, I hope you will love it here. You do not mind cats and dogs, do you?"

She was in paradise! This woman and her family was the nicest ones the girl had ever met. Love at first sight! During the 3 weeks she stayed there the woman always told her "mi casa, es su casa". I know that you now are thinking "That's just what they say" but this family really did mean it. The girl felt like H O M E.

The girl cried all the way to the airport the last day and she promised them to come back and her "Maltese Mama" told her they would see eachother again, very soon.

This little girl is me, but I am now a grown up woman. A stronger one and extremely confident! I have a family here in Sweden but I also have one in Malta and they will always be close to my heart. They made me love Malta and they made me feel like their daughter...

Since that summer I have been to Malta nearly every summer during my teenage years. I have so many good memories from these islands and every time I am at the airplane back home and looking down, I keep telling myself "I'll be back soon, very soon".

(Malta seen from above)

I just love these islands so much, it is really hard to put it down in words. Malta is a big part of me and my life, it embraced me when I had a hard time, maybe that's why I love her so.

One summer I got to try diving for free and I was hooked. For the second time in my life I felt like this was it, this was the thing I would like to work with.

It took me some years haha but now, 8 years since that feeling, I am so close to my dream I can nearly touch it.

In 8 days we are packing the car and leaving Sweden... for good!

MALTA - I am all yours.

Moving to Sweden

Don't worry, I haven't changed my mind about the move F R O M  Sweden...

Found a very funny post at  Freedom Travel's blog. The original post is to be found at The Local.

Some tips for the people thinking of taking my empty place in Sweden when I move abroad.

  1. Start building your coffee tolerance - Coffee drinking is fostered through a tradition called fika. It’s not uncommon to grab a cup of coffee after breakfast, after lunch, before dinner, and after dinner.

  2. Pick a number, please - From the pharmacy and tax office to your doctor’s office and local grocery store’s deli-meat counter, you’ll be forced to exercise patience as you wait to be served in a numbered queue.

  3. You can probably get by with English for decades, but… –  That’s because many Swedes are fluent in English and are always happy to switch so they can practice their English on you.

  4. Get you shopping done before 5 p.m. (if you can) - Many stores close early, especially at weekends and you’ll be hard-pressed to find a store open past 9 p.m.

  5. At some point, you will squeeze food out of toothpaste tubes - To prepare you for your first visit to the cold foods section of a grocery store, understand that in Sweden, tubes are also used to package foods such as caviar, mayonnaise, mustard, and other similar condiments.

  6. Daddis pushing strollers - Couples are entitled to 480 days of paid parental leave, and this time can be shared between parents. So you’ll often find new fathers with parked strollers and babies strapped to their chests, having lunch and fika dates with other dads.

  7. Camping and hiking and picking berries - If you think high-calorie fikabröd means most Swedes are borderline obese, I’ll let you in on a little secret — Swedes love the outdoors.

  8. Melodifestivalen - This widely popular music event, held every February through March, is a welcome distraction on long dark winter nights.

  9. Many businesses shut down in July - It’s not uncommon to find restaurants and stores shut down for an entire month, usually in July, while employees take their 4-6 week vacations.

  10. Try keeping it ”lagom” - When used in reference to societal behavior, it means blending in appropriately without extreme displays of emotion.

  11. Locate your nearest IKEA - There are very few stores in Sweden where you can buy affordable furniture and food at the same time, so it’s definitely worthwhile locating your nearestIKEA.

  12. Nice shoes. Please take them off - You’ll quickly notice that shoes are taken off when entering private residences in Sweden. There are many theories surrounding this old tradition.

  13. Winters are really cold, dark and can be depressing - At the depth of winter in some northern parts of the country above the Arctic Circle, you might get as little as three hours of sunlight per day.

  14. Be on time - It is common knowledge here that ”time” should be respected at all times — regardless of whether you’re going for an interview or meeting up with friends for fika.

  15. Get your tasty adult beverages at state-run Systembolaget – You’ve got only one legal option of buying stronger alcohol, and that’s from one of the roughly 400 state-run liquor stores called Systembolaget.

  16. Keep that plastic bag - Before you toss out that plastic bag, you may want to reconsider. Most grocery stores will charge you a few kronor for plastic or paper bags in an effort to keep waste low and encourage recycling.

  17. Special days celebrating food - These are days when Swedes collectively celebrate the following foods: cinnamon buns, pancakes, semlor and waffles.

  18. It is safe to drink the water - Drinking straight from the tap is the norm and highly encouraged in Sweden. The water is clean, fresh, and ice cold so you can save tons of money.

  19. Business casual means jeans - General everyday fashion in Sweden is simple, relaxed, and casual.

  20. Not all education and health care is free - Contrary to popular belief, not all healthcare and education is free, a common misconception many foreigners hold about Sweden’s subsidized social system.

21. And then I, Sunny Diving, will put another one up. The diving here in Sweden is cold cold cold, forget wet suit. Can you wear 10 underwears underneath your dry suit - do it!

What I will miss in Sweden? Hmm, hard question. Number 18, the tap water for sure! No doubt about it, especially since the south of Sweden won prices for the taste of our tap water - it's delicious!

The winters and be on time, no, I won't miss that at all!

The shoe thing I will try to keep in Malta, the friends of my kids have to learn to take their shoes of. I really don't like the thought of shoes inside - can't help it! :/

Then ofcourse I think that the 480 days of paid parental leave is great! I do not think I will need it again, but you never know ;) Any way, it is a great thing that you can stay at home with your child for that long!

(No, we do not always have that much flags haha)

Now I have to study a bit to be able to pass my first tourism assignment at school... :/

To see things from another angle

Have you ever thought what all the fishes are thinking when they see scuba divers approaching?

I just found the answer... :)

Great picture and it's not that far from the truth either unfortunately!
